New Practice Notes: Temporal Scope of the CEAS Legal Acts

Summary

On 12 June 2026, the new Common European Asylum System (CEAS) enters into force. With this unified start date, a series of new regulations and directives will take effect – from the Asylum Procedures Regulation and the Qualification Regulation to the AMMR as the successor to the Dublin III Regulation.

However, the unified start date is deceptive: old and new law will apply in parallel for months to come. For those affected, legal advisors, and courts alike, this represents a significant additional challenge.

So which law applies in which case? Due to varying transitional provisions and cut-off date rules, old and new law will apply simultaneously – depending on the type of procedure, its current stage, and the specifics of each individual case.

Our new practice notes provide a concise overview and help with the classification of concrete cases.
