On 26 May 2025, Equal Rights Beyond Borders co-hosted an information and exchange meeting on gender-based violence (GBV) in the Chios Closed Controlled Access Centre (CCAC), together with UNHCR and with the kind support of METAdrasi, who hosted the event in their Non-Formal Education space.
The meeting brought together key actors including RIS, the Asylum Service, EUAA, Hippocrates, the Police, Metadrasi, and Zeuxis. Together, we explored the various forms of gender-based violence that women asylum seekers and refugees may face, the relevant legal frameworks, and the available protection and referral mechanisms.
UNHCR shared the updated GBV Referral Pathways for Chios, and participants engaged in a meaningful discussion on the roles and responsibilities of different authorities and civil society actors when it comes to preventing and responding to incidents of GBV.
We thank UNHCR for their initiative and METAdrasi for providing the space and support to make this important meeting possible.
